3 reasons you should hire a tutor

July 14, 2021

Now, I know what you're thinking. That somehow I know your child better than you and you aren't heavily involved. In no way am I writing this to be condescending or offend you. All that I ask, is that you read the entire blog before you come to an opinion. Often times, tutors aren't only hired when a student is not doing well in school. In fact, they are also there to help accelerate a child's interest in a particular topic and keep them ahead of their peers and the upcoming school year. With Covid-19 taking a toll on many students grades but also motivation for learning, a tutor can provide the one-on-one support that your child needs. I have crafted 3 reasons that your child should work with a tutor.

1.) Positive Reinforcement

This a term used in psychology that exemplifies human behavior and why we function the way we do. An example of this, is when a student is doing well in school and is rewarded for every "A" they make on their test. This will cause them to continue to do so, because their is a reward involved. This incentive was something I received as a child with my mom and her deal involved me getting a monetary gain ($20). At the age of 11, that was a lot of money for me, so I made sure to bring home as many "A's" on my tests as possible. Now imagine how a tutor can help your child. Every time they have a private session, their knowledge and confidence increases. This allows them to feel more confident in the classroom, thus, helping other kids who may need help as well. Giving them a new sense of pride.

2.) Practice.Practice.Practice.

We have all heard the term "practice makes perfect". This not only applies to school, but also life. The more a person does additional practice problems on their own, outside of the assigned homework. Every summer, I would visit my grandparents and they would assign me math homework. My grandfather would grade it once he arrived home from work. Although, I secretly dreaded completing it, the repetition helped me excel in more ways than one. I now know my multiplication tables like the back of my hand. The more retention and discipline will be built, further expanding their knowledge. A private session with a tutor can help reinforce certain math concepts, such as: factoring, logarithms, order of operations and so many more topics.

3.) Increase Confidence

Due to the new learning style that is virtual learning, many students have lost the ability to build a rapor with their peers and teacher. Often times, the student doesn't get the one-on-one time they need and feel a sense of isolation. (Look up statistic). Hiring a tutor, will not only prevent your child from falling behind, but it will increase their confidence exponentially. I know this feeling very well myself. Being able to be a leader in the classroom and community amongst their peers is an immaculate feeling.

There are many reasons that a tutor is a great support system. I hope this article provides a sense of clarity but also encourages you as a concerned parent to make the next steps. If that person is you, feel free to contact us here: www.tutormetoday.org for a free 15 minute phone call!
